Anti-Abortion Laws Won’t Stop us
Men around the world believe they can control women and make us submit by passing restrictive abortion legislation. They think that by controlling our bodies, they can increase the birth rate and shape society to their will. But they are gravely mistaken.
Poland has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the European Union. Despite this, the country is facing one of the lowest birth rates in Europe, dropping as low as 1.16 in 2023. It’s only expected to continue declining, possibly even dropping below 1.

Laws may limit our choices, but they cannot control our bodies or our futures. Even when men control the laws and make them difficult to change, it won’t stop us. If we cannot change the laws, we will simply stop having sex or getting married, we might just stop entering relationships altogether.
This trend is already being seen in America, too. Women are having far less sex following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and the cultural shift is undeniable. As restrictive abortion laws and policies continue to be pushed in red slates, the response from women is clear: we won’t be coerced into motherhood.
Thirteen per cent of singles under 50 said that they are now more afraid of getting pregnant or getting someone else pregnant, including 21% of gen Z singles between the ages of 18 and 26. Twelve per cent of singles under 50 also said that Roe’s demise has made them more hesitant to date, while 11% said they have casual sex less frequently and the same number reported having less sex overall.
No country has been able to achieve long-term success in reversing declining birth rates through restrictive policies. Whether they want to offer us money like in Hungary, or impose restrictions on our bodily autonomy like Poland, it doesn’t matter. Women will no longer fuck men or have children with them.
Even women who once may have considered having children are now walking away from it because of these oppressive laws. Once again, men’s attempts to control us are driving us further away from the very goals they hope to achieve. The more they try to control us, the stronger our resistance grows. The future of our reproductive rights—and our power—will not be dictated by legislation, but by our collective refusal to comply. ♀
