Champion Women is a non profit organization founded and led by Nancy Hogshead, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and a respected civil rights attorney. Champion Women is dedicated to providing legal advocacy for girls and women in sports, working tirelessly to ensure fair treatment, safety and equal opportunities across athletic programs. Their primary focus areas include:
- Equal play and Title IX compliance within athletic departments
- Protection against sexual harassment, abuse and assault
- Preservation of sex segregated sports categories
- Advocacy against employment, pregnancy and sexual orientation discrimination
Champion Women: Advocacy for Women in Sports
Champion Women’s mission is to eliminate the systemic barriers that have historically marginalized women and girls in athletics. Through a combination of education, legal action, community engagement and direct advocacy, the organization is committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where every girl and woman can participate in sports free from discrimination, abuse or judgment. Their official website serves as a vital platform for advocacy, education and empowerment. It offers an array of carefully curated resources designed to support the rights of female athletes, including:
- Guidance on Title IX rights and enforcement
- Information and materials about SafeSport and efforts to combat sexual abuse
- Educational videos highlighting women’s fights for equality in sports
- A directory to help athletes and families find safe and supportive athletic programs and schools
In addition, visitors to the site can find petitions to sign in support of key legislative and advocacy efforts, as well as links to important articles and news updates on projects and victories in the movement. Champion Women also leads several major initiatives, such as:
- Ending sexual abuse in sports by raising awareness, advocating for stronger accountability measures and ensuring compliance with the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act
- Promoting equality in sports by working to dismantle discriminatory practices and biases that continue to limit opportunities for female athletes
The organization stresses that sports culture must change so that from youth leagues to masters competitions, it is clearly understood:
“Coaches shall not have romantic or sexual relationships with the athletes they coach, regardless of age or consent.”
Champion Women welcomes anyone who shares their vision to join the cause. Their website makes it easy to contact, volunteer or donate to support ongoing efforts. For more information, resources or to get involved, you can reach Champion Women at:
