Most Places in the World Have No Economic Opportunities
I just finished reading an article, detailing the terrible surrogacy industry and the horrific torture and abuse that the trafficked women endured.
The article got me thinking; many places in the world are simply awful places to live. There is rampant corruption, poverty, coercion, and abuse. Many places outside America have very little money-earning opportunities. And America is not that great to begin with. Many live in unescapable poverty here in America. It’s just that around the world, the problem can be so severely worse. In some countries, people may be able to maximize their income at a few hundred dollars a month, constantly living in debt and destitution.
It can only be a great thing that the birth rate in places like Thailand is dropping so rapidly, meaning fewer will have to be born into these pointless cycles of abuse. Under situations of extreme poverty, women are more likely to be taken advantage of by malicious men making false promises. Even worse, a lot of women in impoverished countries are forced into prostitution or surrogacy in order to cover the debt of their male family members.
The fact of the matter is, is that for a vast majority of the world, life is absolutely terrible and there is little that can be done about it, besides not having children anymore. Some places just do not have economic opportunities, no matter how much one tries. We should of course aim to address this by creating more ways that women can become educated and to enter the workforce. But the reality is that suffering and desperation in some countries is just so widespread, that the best way to stop it now is to convince these women that they no longer need to have children for men anymore.
We need to keep sharing about 4B on social media, because as social media is worldwide now, women of the third world can realize that they are allowed to have higher standards for themselves. No amount of money offered by men makes it worth it to enter prostitution, surrogacy, or to become the “girlfriend” of some so-called “Passport Bro.”
Yes, I know the reality is not that simple. There is economic coercion, there are threats, even the threat of being harmed or killed, as many women in surrogacy faced. But we as women just need to stop giving a fuck, because a life of being men’s slaves is worse than death. If our father will have unpaid debts and die of medical issues if we don’t do surrogacy and prostitution, then so be it, he will die. If a man threatens to kill or harm us for not doing something, then so be it, we still won’t do it anyways.
But back to the economic state of things. How many in the world really have a livable wage where they can pay for food, housing, and utilities, without any struggle? Very few. It’s probably less than 5%. Even if there’s a few lucky ones, there’s rarely solutions offered to get the masses out of this predicament. It seems that the success of a few individuals is just used as ways by male leaders to “prove” that leaving poverty is possible, therefore requiring them to make no changes. Very little is being done to seriously alleviate situations of poverty.
We’ve organized in America for years, and still the billionaires are only getting wealthier. Even after all of the years of activism since Occupy Wall Street, many poor males still support the billionaires having as much wealth as they want to. In some countries, the organizing has barely even begun, with complete lack of worker protections being the norm.
According to World Bank in 2022, half of the global population lives on less than $6.85 a day. In America, we’re mostly shielded from seeing the extreme poverty of third world nations in our daily lives, but it’s a reality that is there. We know how bad things in America are despite being the “wealthiest nation” in the world, so just imagine what it is like for those earning $6.85 a day.
What use is having children in that type of world? Or even dating or marrying men. The thing that I came to understand was that this movement cannot just be 4B America; it needs to be 4B Thailand, 4B Georgia, and 4B Ukraine. I will continue fighting for women’s educational opportunities around the world, for women to excel in STEM subjects and to learn English for better opportunities. But in the end, there’s one important task that all of us as women have. No giving birth. ♀
