Why Birth Television Slaves?
By adulthood, most humans are aware that life can come with extreme pain. This is readily apparent when viewing life accurately, and not through the lens of delusions or religion. Life his filled with diseases and circumstances that can lead to chronic pain and impairment. Even if we have not personally experienced these types of hardships, we often know many that have.
But even when life does not come with pain, it is often a life of extreme boredom. A report from Eurodata TV Worldwide discovered how often people watch television:
“people across the world watched television for about three hours a day on average in 2017. But the United States and Canada led the way with four hours and three minutes per day, with European viewers following closely behind at three hours and 49 minutes per day.”
This means that outside of work, most people spend most of the time watching television. This activity is either extremely monotonous and boring, or filled with constant images of stress and violence. How often have you been to someone’s home, only to be distracted by the nonending displays of violence and negative emotions that are playing on the television?
Most people are not living life. They are watching others live it on the television. Worst of all, these images of life are often traumatic and destructive. It’s not enough for people to view fictionalized murder, but they crave the fictionalized destruction of entire cities and worlds. Think about how many times the entirety of New York City has been destroyed or damaged in a show or movie. Even in the last few years, it’s too many.
The problem with all of this is that it is all too normalized in society. Children that are born into this world will see how adults live, and believe that there is no life outside of watching television. What do most parents do when they are not working? They watch television. Many adults use television as a way to occupy any last free time available.
Is this what life is about? Working and television? Many would say it isn’t, but that is the exact life that most of the population around the world lives.
One may wonder if it’s possible to raise children away from the television. Sure, but for the most part, this is just theory. The reality is that as humans, we are heavily influenced by peer pressure and propaganda. Most children and adults now will become addicted to television and streaming. Media has been carefully weaponized for a long time as a powerful advertising tool, aiming to extract the most time and money out of its audience.
Anyone that still wants to have children should think carefully about how much time the average person actually watches television for. How much of life do most people spend passively consuming images? How much of it actually has a good message?
Most humans live a life of being a slave to the television. Using the word “slavery” always seems like a large leap, because how can something like watching television be compared to forced servitude? The truth is that even the wealthiest and the ones with the most free time can still be slaves. It is not freedom to live a life stuck on the couch to be bombarded with constant images of violence and product placements.
Many people rightfully point out how corporations have massively exploited us under the system of capitalism. They rightfully point out how there is no point of bringing a child into the world where they will struggle monetarily. But many forget that the so-called “entertainment” or “leisure” activities that they look forward to are actually setting us back the most. Television may not steal wages, but it steals time. Without time, we will never change anything. We would all remain as slaves.
Why birth television slaves? There is no reason to. Sure, we can point to some grand examples where people had adventure and saw the world. There’s no doubt that lives like that exist. But the reality of most of human existence is a passive, unhealthy person, sitting behind a television screen. Most of humanity will just work and then watch television until it is time to sleep. There is no reason to pass this type of extreme boredom to anyone in the future.
At 4B America, we talk a lot about not having children. This article is of course one of those examples. But beyond the main 4B principles, we want you to think of the media that is out there as well. Switch out the television for something that is more interactive. Get involved with writing and reading on sites like Substack. Have conversations with real women on social media, instead of passively consuming media made for men.
At 4B America, you can hear the truth. Existence is harsh; it can be extremely painful or excessively boring. But while alive, we can at least be someone who stands up against injustice, fighting for a better world for us all to live in. By not having children, you’ve done the best thing for humanity already. To go even further beyond, get rid of the television set, and continue to develop your mind daily with education and socialization. ♀
